چکیده The present research was designed to compare and analyze the translation of discourse markers in Mehdi Ghabraee’s and Ziba Ganji-Parisa Soleymanzadeh’s Persian translations of Khaled Hosseini’s (2003) The Kite Runner. In this comparative study, the researcher attempted to examine the translation strategies were used for translation of DMs by two different male and female translators based on the translation strategies proposed by Malone (1988)’s model. The data were selected randomly of eight chapters of this novel. Then, DMs of these data were recognized and classified according to Fraser (1999)’s model. After that, the researcher identified different translation strategies employed by the two translators based on Malone (1988)’s model. To confirm and evaluate the findings, the data were given to two qualified raters. The results of Feliss’ Kappa for the three ratings of translation strategies in Ghabraee’s Translation and Ganji - Soleymanzadeh’s translation show a high inter-rater agreement between the raters. The results of comparing the target texts indicate that the six strategies, consisted of ‘equation’, ‘divergence’, ‘substitution’, ‘amplification’, and ‘reordering’, were applied in the translation of DMs by the translators. Equation was used more than other types of translation strategies, while reordering was the lowest strategy in both translated texts. Moreover, the findings of a Mann-Whitney U test demonstrated that no critical contrast was found regarding translation strategies employed by Ghabraee’s and Ganji-Soleymanzadeh’s translations for translating DMs based on Malone (1988) ’s classification. Another aspect of this study is that no significant difference was found in employing translation strategies by the male and female translators. Also, the pedagogical implications of the study are discussed
