چکیده Public perceptions have direct relation with the reputations of politicians as well as other popular figures and once reputations are threatened, images repair becomes vital. Benoit‘s Image Repair Theory (IRT) (1995) is used as model and methodological impetus of the study. This study focuses on the image repair strategies used in Trump― the president of the united states‖ words and statements on two different issues one about racism and the other sexual assault. In addition, the current study intended to discover which strategy or strategies are used. Two raters read the statements and evaluated the applied strategies. The accumulated data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. The results revealed that the dominant image restoration strategies in all speeches in racism included evasion of responsibility(good intention) and correct action. Denial (shift blame) and reduce offensiveness (attack accuser) were adopted in sexual assault. It means that, other strategies such as reduce offensiveness (bolstering, differentiation, minimization, transcendence) evasion of responsibility (defeasibility ) were employed less and mortification, provocation, accident strategies were not used. It would be helpful for both instructors and EFL learners to know about these strategies when their reputation are damaged. Sometimes in an educational system learners and teachers are facing reputational crisis. The way they behave and defend their images are so important that may affect their teaching and learning. Knowing about different image repair strategies meanings and adopting them in an appropriate situation resolves many misunderstanding between teachers and EFL learners.
