In this contemporary urban set up traffic congestion is a vital issue and imposes huge costs to society. This congestion is the outcome of increased traffic flow in certain locations of large cities, which are mostly of monumental nature, recreational, commercial, etc. with high population attraction. Recently, urban transportation planners resort to oneway traffic system, which has a major effect on reducing traffic congestion. In this context, the authors here seek to develop a simulation-optimization-based methodology in order to reduce traffic congestion through one-way traffic network reconfiguration policy. To demonstrate the functionality of this methodology, it is implemented on the Sioux Falls transportation network and the results are analyzed. In order to assess this functionality on real large scale networks, the subject is the city of Isfahan.
