This paper, extracted from a Ph.D. dissertation, examines spatio-temporal diexis as a signpost of point of view technique in three Persian translations of Woolf’s To the Lighthouse. In this regard, the main question raised here: at ‘discourse narratology’ plane, in what ways have the three Persian translators rendered the ‘spatio-temporal point of view’ in their Persian translations of Woolf’s novel? In providing some reasonable answers to this question, this paper, having reviewed the main literature on the topic, tries to propose a much more linguistic and stylistic methodology for studying ‘point of view’ in both the original and the translations through the main narratological typologies such as Uspensky’s. Having taken some deictic expressions as ‘now’, ‘then’, ‘here’ as examples and data, this paper comes to this conclusion that the three Persian translators of Woolf’s novel have rendered not only the same deictic expressions, with respect to the referential meanings, differently in different passages of the novel, but they have also treated them in various ways with respect to the non-referential meanings beyond the sentential level. However, the challenging point lies in the way in which the translators have been involved with these deictic expressions mostly in the sentences and passages of ‘FID’.
