چکیده We stud ied the s urface plasmon wave s i n a quantum plasma half-space by consider ing the effects of exchange and correlatio n for the electrons. We used a quantum hydrodynam ic approach, including the full set of Maxwell equations and considering two new quantities (measu ring the exchange and correlation effects) in addition to the Fermi electron tempe rature and the quantum Bohm pot ential, to derive the dispersion relation for the surface plasmon waves. It was fo und that the exchange-co rrelation effects s ignificantly mo dified the behavior of surface plasmon waves. We showed that the frequency of surface plasmon wav e was down-shi fted by the exchang e-correlation effects. On the other hand, the quantum effects (including of the exchange -correlation effects and the quantum Bohm pot ential) was seen to cause an increase in the phase speed of surface pla smon waves. Our results can help to underst and the propagation properties of surface wav es in intense laser produced solid densi ty plasmas and metallic plasma s.
