Abstract

Water delivery modeling in the irrigation networks needs hydrodynamic simulation with a suitable model similar to the ICSS (irrigation conveyance system simulation). Also, fairly water delivery needs an optimization algorithm similar to the Simulated Annealing (SA) in a simulation–optimization model. Therefore, in this study, the ICSSDOM (Irrigation Conveyance System Simulation Delivery Optimization Model) simulation–optimization model is introduced from combining the ICSS hydrodynamic simulation model and the SA optimization algorithm. Since this objective function is an implicit function of decision variables and hydraulic parameters, it is necessary to run a hydrodynamic model and numerical optimization methods together. The ICSSDOM could present optimal instruction of operation considering downstream requirements of turnouts, canal inlet fow and actual conditions. It can be achieved using a linear combination of performance indicators with a proposed method for determining weighting coefficients in an objective function. In this investigation, ICSSDOM used to optimize a 10-day performance of the E1L4 canal in the Dez irrigation network in Iran. The optimization results based on the proposed method for weighting indicators showed that the indicators have a significantly improved compared with the existing conditions in all 10 days. Finally, the optimization results by an innovative mathematical validation method (the Asymptote method as) were confirmed.
