چکیده Background: Transplantation of ovarian tissue is currently an option to restore fertility in cancerous patients. However, fol- licle loss caused by free radical production and inflammation is a limiting factor in this procedure. Platelets contain growth fac- tors and cytokines that play a major role in tissue repair. There- fore, we decided to assess the role of Platelet Lysate (PL) in pre- serving the follicular pool and restoring ovarian graft survival. Materials and Methods: The Naval Medical Research Institute (NMRI) mice (4–5 weeks old) were randomly divided into the following groups: control, autograft and autograft+PL (5ml/kg daily intraperitoneal injections). 28 days after transplantation, ovaries were studied stereologically. Data were analyzed using one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Tukey test, and the means were considered significantly different at P<0.05. Results: The mean number of follicles (primordial, primary, preantral and antral) were significantly lower in the autograft and autograft+PL group than the control group, while these pa- rameters were significantly higher in the autograft+PL group compared to the autograft group. The mean total volume of the ovary and the mean volume of the medulla and cortex were sig- nificantly lower in both autograft and autograft+PL groups than in the control group. Meanwhile, in the autograft+PL group, these parameters were significantly higher than the autograft group. Conclusion: Our study results provide the first evidence that treatment with PL can ameliorate ischemia/reperfusion injuries that occur after ovary autotransplantation in mice.
