Abstract

In the current study, a series of V2O5–MoO3 catalyst supported on γ-Al2O3 with various V2O5 and MoO3 loadings was prepared by wet impregnation technique. The characterization of prepared catalysts was performed by means of BET surface area, powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), and oxygen chemisorptions. The partial oxidation of n-hexane by air over V2O5–MoO3/γ-Al2O3 catalysts was carried out under flow condition in a fixed bed glass reactor. The effect of V2O5 loading, temperature, MoO3 loading, and n-hexane LHSV on the n-hexane conversion and the product selectivity were investigated. The partial oxygenated products of n-hexane were ethanol, acetic anhydride, acetic acid, and acetaldehyde. The 10%V2O5–1%MoO3/γ-Al2O3 was found in most active and selective catalyst during partial oxidation of n-hexane. The results indicated that by increasing the temperature, the n-hexane conversion increases as well, although the selectivity of the products passes through a maximum by increasing the temperature
