Abstract

The theory of hypoplasticity is a relatively recent class of constitutive models which have been developed to mathematically describe the non-linear and irreversible behavior of geomaterials. As compared to elastoplasticity, its distinctive feature is the continuously non-linear dependence of the material response on the direction of strain rate. Moreover, material response is described without introducing any decomposition of the strain rate tensor into a reversible and irreversible part. This paper presents the numerical simulation of an extended hypoplastic constitutive model which describes the mechanical behavior of cohesive soils. The efficiently predicting of experimental results demonstrates the applicability of the new extended hypoplastic constitutive model to predict the viscous behavior of cohesive soils under oedometric and undrained loading path.
