Abstract Nowadays, heterogeneous ionic liquid catalysts are used for control of environmental pollution. Because, the heterogeneous catalysts are easily separated and recovery and re-used. In this work, to preparation an acid catalyst 1-Butyl-3-methyl imidazolium azide [TMSP-S-Tet.] HY-Z functionalized on HY zeolite by sulfonyl group. The synthesized catalyst was characterized by diferent methods such as FTIR, XRD, BET, SEM, EDX, TGA and TPD-NH3.The result shows 1-Butyl-3-methyl imidazolium azide functional on zeolite and creating a catalyst with micro-meso structure, high surface area and good acidity. The catalytic activity of it was considered in the Paal-Knorr reaction for the synthesis of pyrrole derivatives under solvent-free conditions. The optimum conditions for diferent factors such as catalyst amount, solvent and time were investigated. In addition, the separated catalyst provided this reusable catalyst can be used at least for 6 runs without signifcant change in structure and loss in activity. Comparison of [TMSP-S-Tet.] HY-Z catalyst with other works showed high yield under mild condition.
