Abstract

Abstract The genus Linum L. comprises of more than 230 taxa, and considered the most important genus in the Linaceae family. According to Rechinger (1973), 13 species of the genus naturally grow in Iran. In the current study, we examined the habitat ecological characteristics in some taxa of the genus in the country. In this regard, 5 ecological parameters, including annual mean minimum and maximum temperatures, and geographic coordinate were evaluated. Based on the obtained data, CCA plot of the ecological traits was obtained. Results indicated that several significant positive and negative correlations were detected between the ecological parameters of habitats with some quantitative morphological traits. For example, a significant negative correlation was observed between the basal leaves length and width with the habitat elevation. However, this ecological factor had a positive negative correlation with the calyx width. Moreover, a significant positive correlation was observed between the petal length with northern distribution of taxa. Leaves diameter had a significant negative correlation with the eastern distribution of taxa. The CCA plot explored that some of the evaluated taxa had the specific ecological trait(s) in their habitats. For example, Linum strictum varieties had the eastern distribution rather than the other taxa. Furthermore, the habitat of Linum mucronatum subsp. assyriacum had the maximum annual mean minimum temperature. The mantel test based on the geographical coordinates showed no significant differenc
