Abstract

In Facility layout problem (FLP) is an optimization problem that seeks to specify the layout of facilities usually considering the material handling cost as the main objective function. In this research, a mixed integer nonlinear programing (MINLP) model for the single-floor facility layout problem is developed. The model, unlike the current literature, tend to maximize accessibility to units as a maintenance related objective. It is assumed that some facilities may have emergency maintenance requirements for which easy access from the entrance edges with possible human transportation systems is necessary. A new formulation approach is developed to incorporate accessibility in to the FLP model.
