In this paper, with the use of adaptive network fuzzy inference systems (ANFIS), analysis of single-conductor overhead lines terminated to arrester in the presence of lossy soil is efficiently carried out. In the training process, the input-output samples are computed based on the exact methods reported in literatures. Once, it is converged, it can easily predict the transient voltage across the arrester. In despite of transient solvers such as electromagnetic transient programs (EMTP) which is limited to low frequencies or low-valued heights, ANFIS-based transient analyses are broadband. It makes the proposed modeling approach suitable especially when the overhead line is subjected to lightning currents with fast-front waveforms which containing high frequencies up to 10 MHz.
