Abstract

Ecofriendly or Green synthesis of metal nanoparticles has become an important branch of nanotechnology and there is an increasing commercial demand for nanoparticles due to their wide applications. In this work, green synthesis of silver nanoparticles (SNPs) using the peel extract of Punica granatum (PEP) and petals extract of Rosa damascena (PER) as a reducing agent from 1 mM AgNO3 has been investigated. Different PEP and PER quantities and reaction time were used for the synthesis of SNPs. The resulting SNPs are characterized using UV–Vis, SEM, XRD and FTIR spectroscopic techniques. SNPs were synthesized rapidly within 30 min of incubation period and synthesized SNPs showed an absorption peak at 380-500 nm in the UV-visible spectrum. SEM and XRD spectrum confirmed the formation of metallic silver, and the average size of SNPs was estimated 21 nm. This route is rapid, simple without any hazardous chemicals as reducing or stabilizing agents and economical to synthesized SNPs.
