The efficient preparation of azlactones in the presence of zeolite NaY has been reported. This heterogeneous catalyst was used for efficient synthesis of azlactone derivatives with Ac2O as a condensing agent under microwave irradiation and solvent-free conditions. The present method offers the advantages of good yields, short reaction time, simple work-up, and catalyst reusability, which makes this method mild and eco-friendly.
