Abstract: With the advent of carbon nanotubes, dramatic advances have been made in nanomaterials. Carbon nanotubes with a variety of physical and chemical properties have led to a wide range of new products. Therefore, the use of these highly sensitive materials in the industry is impossible with traditional machining methods and they are used and produced in the industry with non-traditional and modern methods such as EDM. In this method, electrical discharge is done transiently between the electrode (tool) and the work piece, and in each discharge operation, a small part of the metal is removed. The speed of machining in this method depends on the discharge waveform and the time interval between them. In this process, the three main factors of pulse current, pulse duration and pulse voltage are the most significant influencing factors that have been investigated by a powerful sensitivity analysis assistant on the surface roughness output factor. Roughness of surface, which is the main factor for the production and structure of nanoparticles, has been investigated by Sobol sensitivity analysis. Pulse voltage with 46% and pulse current with 33% are crucial factors in the surface roughness of carbon nanotubes in the EDM process.
