A number of chalcones were prepared by condensing substituted acethophenone with different benzaldehyde in ethanolic NaOH solutions. These chalcones were immediately reacted with phenyl hydrazine in the presence of tris(hydroxymethyl)aminomethane/SO3H/Cu(NO3)2 functionalized silica-coated magnetic nanoparticles as a new and efficient heterogenic catalyst to obtain the corresponding 2-pyrazolines in high yield and good purity. The synthesized heterocycles were characterized on the basis of their chemical properties and spectroscopic data. Recyclability of catalyst makes this procedure environmental friendly.
