New solid-state chromogenic probes based on amorphous SiO2, HL-B, and Zeolite-Y, HL-ZY, have been prepared through immobilization of azo-azomethine molecular receptor, HL, in solid scaffolds. Remarkably, HL-B and HL-ZY show unique and rapid sensitivity towards CN− in the presence of H2PO4ˉ, AcOˉ, HSO4ˉ, NO3ˉ, Fˉ, Clˉ, Brˉ and Iˉ in water and could easily detect cyanide ion through naked eye detection even at 2×10-4 molL-1 and 5×10-3 molL-1, respectively. The prepared chromogenic probes were validated using standard spectroscopic methods as well as XRD, FE-SEM, and BET. Furthermore, thermal stability behavior and morphology of the probes were examined.
