Magnetite (Fe3O4) nanoparticles were synthesized via a facile precipitation method between Fe(NO3)3.9H2O and FeCl2.4H2O. Fe3O4 nanoparticles were then added to sulfonated poly (2,6-dimethyl-1,4-phenylene oxide) (SPPO) and sulfonated polyvinylchloride (SPVC) in order to make magnetic nanocomposites. Nanoparticles and nanocomposites were then characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The effect of additive loading on properties of prepared membranes was evaluated. Sonication was used to help in proper dispersion of nanoparticles in the membranes matrix.
