Abstract

Considering the impact of pollutants on human health is of particular importance. Researchers have also focused on the impact of air pollution on the mental and social aspects of health. Hence, the purpose of the present study is to compare and examine the impact of air pollution on social resilience of the citizens of Arak city in 2019-2020. The research method is descriptive causal-comparative and the population includes all the citizens of Arak city. All in all, 283 participants were sampled through voluntary sampling method. From the total data of air pollution indices during a year, three indices of CO, NO2 and PM 2.5 were selected. A researcher-made social resiliency questionnaire with 50 questions was distributed in six districts of the city including the areas with assessment stations named Shariati, Horiba and Ostandari, as well as Mokhaberat, Hepco and Aqilabad areas. It should be noted that the face and content validity of the questionnaire were approved by the experts and the reliability coefficient was 0.7. The data were analyzed using regression statistics, multivariate analysis of variance, and SPSS software. The results showed that the condition of the districts was good and moderate in terms of air pollution and the mean of social resilience was at an average level. Indicators of air pollution also affect some conditions of social resilience. Therefore, air pollution indices can be considered as an important variable on social resilience. However, due to the lack of complete reports of each of the indices throughout the year, the results of the study require closer scrutiny. After confirming the impact of research indices on the social resilience of citizens, it will be necessary to investigate the role of air pollution on other psychological factors.
