Abstract

the physical properties of safflower seeds are necessary for the proper design of equipment for handling, transporting, processing and storage this crop. In this research, effective parameters on physical and geometrical properties of safflower seeds that could play important role in producing oil seeds, including axial dimensions, geometric and arithmetic mean diameter, surface area, volume, sphericity and aspect ratio were investigated. Study of physical properties of 4 safflower seed varieties typically cultivated in Iran at 5 levels of moisture content showed that effect of variety on all parameters and effect of moisture content on all parameters except length of seed is significant at 1%. Goldasgt variety has max and varieties (Esfahan 28 and PS) have min seed dimensions. At empirical view, Goldasht variety has max volume and PS variety has min volume. At all moisture content levels, Goldasht and PS varieties have max and Esfahan variety has min percent of sphericity and aspect ratio. By increasing moisture content all physical and geometrical properties of seeds increase.
