Abstract

Given the paramount importance of healthcare workers in the healthcare sector, this study aimed to develop a comprehensive framework elucidating the educational prerequisites for healthcare workers in Iran using interpretive structural modeling. The research involved academic staff from the University of Medical Sciences and managers from the health and treatment network in Iran, with a total of 27 participants with a self-administered questionnaire. The identified educational needs were validated using the Lawshe content validity index, yielding a substantial content validity ratio (CVR) value of 98%. The interpretive structural modeling technique was then utilized to categorize and prioritize the educational needs. The research findings revealed nine paramount educational needs for healthcare workers, encompassing effective communication skills, internet resource utilization, responsibility and work ethics, healthcare-related laws and regulations, decision-making and problem-solving abilities, teamwork, legal and ethical principles, management skills, and specialized healthcare knowledge. Communication skills, internet resource utilization, responsibility, and work ethics emerged as the most influential factors. Policymakers and managers were found to play a pivotal role in addressing these needs and fostering an enabling environment for healthcare professionals to enhance their proficiency in these domains. This study provides valuable insights for improving healthcare worker education and training programs in Iran.
