Abstract

Abstract: CdTe nanocrystals were synthesized through a hot-injection chemical precipitation method. Then they were applied to form highly luminescent CdTe/CdS core-shell nanocrystals. Thioacetamide was used for over-formation of the CdS shells on the surface of the CdTe NCs. The shell thickness was controlled by the heating time in the shell-making process. The results demonstrated that for 50-70 min of the heating the photoluminescence quantum yield of CdTe/CdS nanocrystals could reach to 64%. This efficiency was quite high and obviously higher than that of the CdTe NCs treated through the same preparation stages.
