Membrane processes are growing rapidly as compared to other separation processes such as distillation, absorption, adsorption and solvent extraction. High permeable membrane materials have been investigated to increase the efciency of membrane processes. Polymeric membranes with unique properties such as low cost, material availability and good processability have been applied in the membrane separation processes especially in the case of acid gases separation from natural gas, air separation and hydrogen recovery. Simultaneous with the progress in membrane material synthesis, great attention has also been devoted to the membrane process design, especially for the large-scale membrane separation processes. In this study, advances in modeling and simulation of industrial membrane separation processes with different modules and confgurations are described. Moreover, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation and modeling of the membrane separators (gas-liquid contactors) are explained due to their high application in industrial applications.
