Abstract

Philosophy of Ethics: Series of lessons on Foundations of Islamic Thought (4) is a textbook, written as part of the series of six books, covering the subject of Philosophy of Ethics as one of the most essential foundations of any school and theory of morality. As the challenges faced by the Islamic youth against the doubts raised against the fundamental teachings of Islamic thought are not limited to one geographical unit, there was an ardent need to answer the most basic doubts and questions that have been raised by the western moral theorists doubting the fact that moral values are grounded in reality, thus undermining religious morality and thus weakening the foundations of Muslim practical life. We hope that translating this book is a step towards addressing the universal need to answer fundamental questions raised by moral philosophers in the modern and post-modern age, and also creating a strong foundational basis for Islamic morality for the Islamic youths all around the globe. This work is unique in the sense that it defends the Islamic school of morality and provides solid and logical foundations for Islamic moral teachings. In this work the author has carefully worked out answers to the most fundamental questions in the field of philosophy of ethics. In addition to explaining the realist view in philosophy of ethics he has criticized other view presented in this field of study.
