Abstract

Phthalazine derivatives possess properties such as antimicrobial[1], anticancer[2] and etc. activities. One pot synthesis of 2H-Indazolo [2, 1-b] phthalazine-trione derivatives with various homogenous and heterogeneous catalysts reported in literatures [3-6] Nanocatalysis is now an important area in the field of nano science and catalysis. In recent years, use of magnetic nano particles(MNPs) due to supermagnetic behavior and easy separation from the reactions media, large surface area, low toxicity, good stability and possible functionalization and etc. is gained more interest in chemical reactions [7].For developing the green procedures for the synthesis of valuable heterocycles, herein, we wish to report an environmentally benign protocol for the synthesis of pharmaceutically important phthalazine-trion derivatives via three-component condensation of phthalhydrazide, dimedone and aldehydes in the presence of sulfonic acid grafted nickel ferrite nano particles in solvent free condition (scheme 1).
